What is Hip? — Tower of Power brings its horn section to the Birchmere (3701 Mount Vernon Ave.) for a 7:30 p.m. show on Thursday, Sept. 26. Tickets are $49.50. More information on the Birchmere website.

City Council — Alexandria’s governing body will have its second legislative meeting of the month at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24 at City Hall. You can take a look at the meeting’s docket on the city’s website.

What’s in a Name? — Speaking of council, its naming committee will consider naming the old Duron Paint building in Arlandria “the Conservancy at Four Mile Run Park” and the Braddock fields after late community activist Lenny Harris. The group meets at 3 p.m. Monday, Sept. 23 in City Hall’s room 3500. Anyone may attend.

Open Mic — Spend a lot of time this summer with your guitar? Show off your new chops Wednesday night at St. Elmo’s Coffee Pub (2300 Mount Vernon Ave.) Signup sheet goes out at 7:30 p.m., with the fun beginning at 8 p.m.

Trivia Night — Fireflies Restaurant (1501 Mount Vernon Ave.) hosts its trivia night beginning at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24. Reservations are recommended and can be placed by calling 703-758-7200.
