UPDATE: Fire on 25th Floor of Bailey's Crossroads Apartment Building: Six Residents Displaced

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA -- Fairfax County Fire and Rescue released new details Tuesday on that two-alarm apartment fire that occurred Sunday night in Bailey's Crossroads. Firefighters from Fairfax County, City of Alexandria and Arlington County responded at approximately 7:50 p.m., to the 3700 block of South George Mason Drive (see map below), in the Bailey’s Crossroads area of Fairfax County, for a report of an apartment fire.

The first arriving units reported fire showing from the balcony of an apartment located on the 25th floor of a 26-story building, the fire department said. A second alarm was immediately requested to bring additional resources to the scene.

Once arriving on the 25th floor, firefighters located the fire in a bedroom in an apartment. The fire had extended to the apartment directly above on the 26th floor. The fire was extinguished in both apartments in approximately 20 minutes. There were no reported injuries to residents or firefighters.

Occupants were alerted to the fire by an odor of smoke in the apartment. There were no smoke alarms observed in the apartment.

Red Cross was called to the scene to assist the occupants of the affected apartments. A total of six occupants from two units were displaced as a result of the fire.

Fire Investigators determined the fire started in the bedroom of the apartment on the 25th floor. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. Total damages as a result of the fire were estimated to be $67,500.
