Wegmans, Harris Teeter, Safeway: Christmas 2018 VA Grocery Hours

VIRGINIA — Serving up a Christmas feast for family and friends means you wade through the grocery store aisles multiple times, whether it's for more potatoes, or whipped cream for the pies, or in search of ingredients for appetizers. Or, maybe someone you extended an invite to actually takes you up on it, throwing off your servings so a last-minute store run is needed.

Below is a list of grocery stores that will be open on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day 2018 in Washington, D.C., and Virginia. Many have varying hours, so always remember to check with the store to make sure it's open. Patch has noted the stores that did not respond to repeated requests for Christmas store hours. We will update the hours as they come in.

So these are the hours for DC and northern Virginia grocery stores on Dec. 24, Christmas Eve, and Dec. 25, Christmas Day, plus links to their websites. The status for grocery chains is taken from their websites and emails to Patch.

Grocery Store Hours

• Wegmans Food Markets: Stores will close at 6 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 24, are closed on Christmas and will reopen at 7 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 26.
• Food Lion: Christmas Eve: Stores open until 7 p.m. Christmas Day: Regular hours.
• Safeway: Most locations close at 8 p.m. on Christmas Eve, are are open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Christmas.
• Giant Foods: Christmas Eve: Stores close at 7 p.m., pharmacies close at 6 p.m. On Christmas Day many stores are open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; no pharmacies are open.
• Harris Teeter: Store hours vary by location but all Harris Teeter stores will close at 7 p.m. on Christmas Eve; all stores are closed Christmas Day; locations will re-open at 8 a.m. on Dec. 26.
• CVS: On Christmas Eve most stores are open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. On Christmas Day most stores open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. (excludes stores inside Target).
• Whole Foods: Christmas Eve: All stores will have limited hours. Hours vary by location. Christmas Day: Closed.
• Fresh Market: Christmas Eve: 7 a.m. - 6 p.m. Christmas Day: Closed.
• MOMs My Organic Market: Open normal hours on Christmas Eve, closed on Christmas.
• Rite Aid: Christmas Eve: Normal hours. Christmas Day: Most stores open 24/7.
• Walmart: Christmas Eve: Stores close at 6 p.m. or 8 p.m. Christmas Day: Closed.
• Target: Christmas Eve: Stores open at 7 a.m. and close at 10 p.m. Christmas Day: Closed.
• ALDI: Christmas Eve: All stores will open with limited hours. Christmas Day: Closed.
• Costco: Christmas Eve: Stores open at 9 a.m. and close at 5 p.m. Christmas Day: Closed.
• Sam's Club: Christmas Eve: Open. Christmas: Closed.
• Trader Joes: Christmas Eve: All stores close at 6 p.m. Christmas Day: Closed
