200 DUI Arrests So Far In King, Pierce And Thurston Counties
The first two weeks of 2020 have seen a high number of impaired driving arrests throughout the region.
SEATTLE, WA — Troopers in King, Pierce and Thurston counties arrested a combined 200 drivers for suspected impairment during the first 15 days of 2020, according to Washington State Patrol data. WSP numbers only include arrests made along interstate roadways and state routes. Updated numbers for Snohomish County were not immediately available.
King County accounted for 106 arrests on its own, while 94 drivers were arrested in District 1, which covers both Pierce and Thurston counties.
According to WSP, 250 people die in Washington every year in crashes linked to impaired driving. A recent report also ranked our state eighth highest for DUI arrests in 2018. Over the holidays, WSP troopers participated in specialized emphasis patrols, deploying trained drug-recognition experts to identify vehicles being driven by those under the influence of all substances.
