Carjacking Suspect Charged After Graham SWAT Standoff
Kyle Becker faces 12 charges related to a SWAT standoff in Graham Monday. Prosecutors said he had eight previous felony convictions.

TACOMA, WA — A Pierce County man faces a dozen charges related to a carjacking and SWAT standoff in Graham Monday, according to court documents filed Tuesday. The prosecutor's office said charges against 30-year-old Kyle Edward Becker include first-degree robbery, first-degree kidnapping, unlawful theft of a firearm, theft of a firearm and theft of a motor vehicle — totaling 12 counts in all.
According to charging documents, the incident began Monday morning when deputies were called to a home on 245th Street East after a woman called to report a carjacking. The victim told deputies a man she knew as "Tony" broke into her room through an open window and held her at gunpoint, then tied her hands and ankles with duct tape.
Prosecutors said the man also held the woman's roommate at gunpoint and demanded firearms and ammunition from the house before taking the keys and leaving with a stolen Ford Taurus.

The woman told investigators she met the man earlier in the month after seeing him hitchhiking and giving him a ride.
After Becker fled the house, prosecutors said a deputy spotted the stolen car and began to chase it. The car crashed into some brush and the suspect ran across the field and toward nearby homes. Deputies said they found a bag full of guns inside the abandoned car.

According to investigators, Becker rang the doorbell of a home on 82nd Avenue East and forced a 91-year-old man to the ground at gunpoint, demanding clothes and money. While the suspect was changing, the homeowner noticed law enforcement outside and escaped the house.
Prosecutors said a SWAT standoff continued for approximately 30 minute while crisis negotiators tried to convince Becker to leave the home. Eventually, SWAT members threw tear gas in the house and breached a garage door with explosives, leading to his arrest.
At the time of the arrest, Becker had two outstanding felony warrants, including one from King County Superior Court and another from the Department of Corrections. The prosecutor's office said he had eight prior felony convictions.
The judge set bail at $1 million.
