TACOMA, WA — First responders from around Washington gathered in Tacoma Monday to participate in a procession and memorial service for fallen Pierce County Deputy Cooper Dyson. The 25-year-old deputy was killed in a crash while rushing to the aid of his colleagues in Parkland earlier this month. He joined the sheriff's department in 2018.

Photos posted on social media showed dozens of emergency vehicles lining the route between Joint Base Lewis-McChord and the Tacoma Dome, where a public ceremony was scheduled at 1 p.m. Several photos shared by the Pierce County Sheriff's Department showed community members holding flags and signs of support along South Tacoma Way.

Dyson's father delivered a family statement to the media outside the sheriff's department on Christmas Eve. He remembered his son as a devoted man of God and someone who was committed to doing good in his community. Deputy Dyson is survived by a young son and a pregnant wife.
