According to the sheriff's department, Dyson was the first deputy to respond to an urgent backup call from two deputies who were struggling with a domestic violence suspect at a Parkland home. The deputies said the man, now identified as Demecies Craver, resisted several of their efforts to subdue him and attempted to choke a K9 before he was taken into custody. Craver appeared in court to face several charges Monday afternoon.

Investigators said Dyson crashed into lumber outside a business while rushing to help his colleagues over very wet roads. The 25-year-old deputy is survived by a pregnant wife, due in just two weeks, and a young son. The Dyson family spoke of his devotion to God, and his passion to do good in his community, during a press conference outside the sheriff's department on Christmas Eve.

Those wishing to donate to help Deputy Dyson's family can do so via the Tacoma/Pierce County Crime Stoppers website, or in-person at any TAPCO Credit Union.
