Legendary Filmmaker Warren Miller Dies At 93

Miller was known for his more than 500 films, many of which focused on skiing.

ORCAS ISLAND, WA - Iconic filmmaker Warren Miller passed away at his home in Orcas Island Wednesday at the age of 93. Miller made more than 500 films, many of which focused on his passion for outdoor sports and skiing in particular. Warren earned his fame in part for his annual ski feature film, which for more than 60 years kicked off the ski season for people around the globe.

A statement regarding Miller's death was posted on his Facebook page: "While this is a time of profound loss, we are comforted that Warren’s life touched so many. Warren made the extraordinary seem accessible, and his legacy of freedom, humor, and adventure endures through all of you."

Miller was a World War II veteran, a ski instructor and talented ski racer, an accomplished surfer, and a champion sailor, according to a statement on his website. He took up windsurfing in his 60s, and then turned to destination motor boating in his 70s and 80s, exploring the Northwest and Alaska from his home on Orcas Island.
