Memorial Service For Deputy Cooper Dyson Planned Monday

TACOMA, WA — The Pierce County Sheriff's Department announced a public memorial service for the deputy who was killed in a crash Saturday morning while rushing to the aid of his colleagues. The public is invited to come pay their respects and honor the life of Deputy Cooper Dyson during a ceremony at the Tacoma Dome, beginning at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 30.

The sheriff's department said there will be a funeral procession before the ceremony, but information on what route it will take is not yet available. More details will be available in the days ahead.

Deputy Dyson, 25, leaves behind a pregnant wife and a young son. Anyone wishing to help his family can send donations via the Tacoma/Pierce County Crimestoppers website, or in person at any TAPCO Credit Union.

Deputy Dyson's family briefly spoke to the media outside the Pierce County Sheriff's Department Tuesday morning.

"We cannot describe the overwhelming love that we have received from the community of Pierce County, from the state of Washington, and from all over this great country," Brad Dyson said.

"The love you have shown us is the very reason why Cooper wanted to serve all of us. From the time he was young and talking about what he wanted to do, he would say I will go wherever God needs me to go."
