PARKLAND, WA — A Pierce County deputy was killed in a crash Saturday morning while rushing to help his colleagues. The sheriff's department said several deputies were struggling with a domestic violence suspect at a house on 113th Street South just after 3 a.m. Saturday. Deputies radioed for backup after the man began assaulting them and tried to grab a shotgun, according to investigators.

Deputy Cooper Dyson, 25, rushed toward the scene. The sheriff's department said a 911 caller reported a vehicle had crashed into a building on the 1300 block of 112th Street East at 3:10 a.m. When deputies arrived, they found Deputy Dyson's patrol car. Investigators said he died at the scene.

The sheriff's department said Deputy Dyson started with the sheriff's department just one year ago. He leaves behind a pregnant wife and a 2-year-old child.
