A 31-year-old man called 911 around 11:30 p.m. Thursday and told dispatchers he had been shot in the lower back while traveling southbound on I-5, near South 240th Street. The victim drove himself to a nearby gas station and waited for help.

When troopers arrived, they found him lying face down an AM/PM parking lot, with a woman applying pressure to his gunshot wound with paper towels. A trooper took over until medics arrived. The man told investigators someone shot at him several times, but he did not see the vehicle nor the occupants inside. Troopers counted 10 bullet holes in the left side of his vehicle.

WSP detectives ask anyone who may have witnessed the shooting to contact them at 425-401-7746, or by email.

The injured man was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. He is expected to survive.
