WSP Helps With Roadside Delivery
A Port Orchard couple gave birth to a baby boy while parked along SR-3 near Gorst Friday morning.

GORST, WA - Washington State troopers were treated to an atypical emergency call Friday morning when they were dispatched to assist a Port Orchard couple deliver their baby along the highway near Gorst.
The couple was reportedly on their way to hospital just after 7 a.m. when the father-to-be called 911 to inform dispatchers that his wife was in labor, he was driving fast, and he had no plans to stop. While the call ahead was probably prudent, dispatchers still advised the man to pull over and wait for assistance from emergency responders, according to WSP Trooper Chelsea Hodgson.
Parked alongside SR-3 near Viking Fence Company, the rapidly expanding family was greeted within minutes by WSP Trooper Ben Sherman, who was followed shortly thereafter by three more troopers, a Bremerton fire crew, and a South Kitsap ambulance team.

Mom gave birth to a healthy baby boy within 10 minutes of pulling over, Hodgson said. Immediately following the birth, South Kitsap medics took the family to hospital, where mom and baby are said to be doing well.
Later Friday morning Hodgson shared on Twitter a photo of the WSP trooper team who participated in the roadside birth.
