Assault This Morning at Edmonds Community College

Police arrested a 20-year-old student after he hit a bus driver on the back of the head in an altercation in the men's restroom on the college campus.

A Community Transit bus driver reported being hit on the back of the head by a 20-year-old male student in the first floor restroom in Alderwood Hall at Edmonds Community College.

The incident happened this morning at 10:30 a.m. after an argument between the two men. The 40-year-old driver, who is from Stanwood, did not require immediate medical attention.

Lynnwood Police responded to the scene and arrested the student. He was booked and released for Assault 4, a gross misdemeanor and Minor Exhibiting the Affects of Alcohol.

This is the second recent attack to take place in the restroom of Alderwood Hall, though the two incidents are not directly related. Last month, with a knife in an Alderwood Hall restroom. The victim yelled for help and students and teachers nearby called 911, said Lynnwood Police spokeswoman Shannon Sessions.

Witnesses reported seeing the suspect running away from the campus. Police responded, sealed the area and searched for the suspect with the aid of a police dog. The victim was transported to Swedish Edmonds Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, where he was treated and released. The suspect from that attack is still at large. He was described as a thin, black male in his early 20s with a shaved head or very short haircut. He was wearing a black shirt and a blue and white plaid jacket. He used pepper spray and a knife in the attack.

Typically, three uniformed security officers and a part-time student security officer patrol the Edmonds Community College campus while classes are in session. After school hours, security staff conduct hourly walks of the college buildings and grounds.
