Construction Begins of New Playfield at Edmonds Community College

When completed this fall, Triton Field will serve the school's soccer, baseball, and softball teams.

Construction crews began work on the new Triton Field at Edmonds Community College this week, and expect to finish the project sometime this fall.

The turf field replaces a grass baseball field and will be used for intercollegiate soccer, baseball, and softball games. Triton Field will also be available for EdCC's physical education classes and for community rentals.

Construction of Triton Field will cost $2.5 million, and will eventually be funded by a student fee of $1.50 per credit. The college is providing the upfront financing.

The new field will allow EdCC's soccer and softball teams to practice on campus, rather than travel to other facilities. Triton Field will include softball and baseball press boxes, a ticket booth, bleachers, and a large turf playing surface.

“We’ll go from having no soccer field on campus to having the largest turf pitch in all of Snohomish County,” said EdCC women’s soccer coach Jeanette Delaney.

Triton Field's turf surface will also allow the baseball team to practice and play in the rain.

EdCC baseball coach Brad Ditter believes that the field will help draw new players to the college.

“Now that this project is happening, it will be a big draw for recruiting that we have one of the best fields throughout the league,” Ditter said.
