Everett Nurse Accused Of Raping Patient In King County

George Tulus is accused of raping a patient in his care while he worked as a nurse assistant at a Seattle-area hospital.

SEATTLE — A Snohomish County man who previously worked as a nurse assistant in a Seattle-area hospital, and was arrested for allegedly raping a patient in his care, had his nursing assistant certificate suspended this week pending the outcome of the forthcoming King County Superior Court case.

George Edward Tulus, 61, of Everett, was arrested in King County, formally charged with second-degree rape, and later released in April 2019. On July 10, the Washington Department of Health suspended Tulus' nursing credentials.

According to the statement of charges against him, Tulus at some point between March 2018 and May 2018 raped a patient for whom he was supposed to be treating. The warrant for Tulus' arrest in the matter was issued April 18, 2019, and the order establishing a trial date was issued on June 18.

While it appears to be the first formal charge of this nature ever leveled against Tulus, the Washington Department of Health in its Summary Action Order noted there have been multiple accusations of sexual assault filed against him since 2003 — one year after he reportedly obtained his nursing certificate.
