'Right At School' Coming To Edmonds School District

Before and after-school program provider Right At School will offer its nationwide curriculum locally for the 2019-2020 school year.

EDMONDS, WA - The Edmonds School District this week announced its plan to bring online a new before and after-school program provider for the 2019-2020 school year. By recruiting the new nationwide provider, Right At School, all 22 Edmonds School District elementary facilities will be able to offer "high-quality, affordable, (and) flexible" programs for families, district Superintendent Kristine McDuffy said.

"We understand the importance of before and after school programs for many of our families," McDuffy said in a statement released Feb. 27. "The Right At School program offers engaging curriculum to help spark the joy of learning and 21st Century skill development such as critical thinking, problem-solving, collaboration, leadership, and more. It’s a nationwide program already being used in other districts in our region, and we are pleased to bring it to Edmonds School District."

From homework help to fitness activities, Right At School "supports learning standards in English Language Arts, Literacy, Mathematics, Science, Physical Fitness, and Service Learning, along with Kennedy Fine Art Standards and CASEL’s Social Emotional Learning Standards," according to the Right At School website.

McDuffy said that while Right At School will increase before and after-school options between 6:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. on weekdays, the district's current program providers will remain available at their designated schools through the remainder of the 2018-2019 school year.

Additionally, some of the current providers will offer summer 2019 programs, and the city of Mountlake Terrace's Kids Krew will continue its current programming at Mountlake Terrace Elementary, Madrona K-8, and Terrace Park Elementary, McDuffy said.
