Tip Jar Robbery Ends Pitifully In Edmonds
Michael Gibbs, 42, tried to run off with the tip jar from Manna Teriyaki Wednesday afternoon, but he dropped the jar in the parking lot.
EDMONDS, WA — An accused robber was arrested in Edmonds Wednesday after he attempted to run off with the tip jar from Manna Teriyaki, according to court documents obtained by Patch.
Michael Scott Gibbs, 42, on July 17 was charged with one count of robbery. He remains in Snohomish County jail without a set bail amount.
According to the employee working at Manna Teriyaki, Gibbs entered the business located next-door to Subway at 23805 Highway 99, walked up to the counter, then grabbed the restaurant's tip jar, which contained coins and dollar bills. As Gibbs turned and ran out the front door, the employee chased him into the parking lot, where Gibbs then dropped the jar, shattering it and scattering the loose money all over the ground.

Both Gibbs and the employee stopped to retrieve the money from the ground, court documents state. As the employee bent over, however, Gibbs allegedly drew a large knife from a sheath he had strapped to his belt and "held it in a threatening manner."
Gibbs ultimately fled the parking lot but was arrested a short time later by an Edmonds officer. After making the arrest and conducting a search, the officer found 26 cents in Gibbs' pocket.
