Eastside Republican Club 2013 Scholarship Essay Program

The Eastside Republican Club is pleased to announce that it will award a $1,000 scholarship to the author of the best essay, as determined by the Club’s judges, submitted on the following topic:

“What is the best way to stop gun violence without infringing on the rights protected by the Second Amendment?”

Essays should demonstrate the submitter’s knowledge of history and/or include personal experiences of the submitter, family, or friends.

Submitters must be currently enrolled as high school students graduating in 2013 or as freshmen or sophomores in an accredited college or university. Submitters must also either permanently reside in, or be attending a public, private, or home school located in, King County, Washington.

By submitting an essay, the submitter declares that the essay is their original work, that they received no more than limited assistance from others, and that the work does not violate the intellectual property rights of any other person or entity.

Essays must be submitted in Microsoft Word (DOC or DOCX), plain text (TXT), or Portable Document Format (PDF) format, must not exceed 500 words in length, and must be in English.

Submissions must be received by 11:59PM on Monday, April 22, 2013. Submissions must be emailed to scholarship@eastsiderepublicanclub.org. The email message must include the following information about the submitter: full name, age, full residence address, telephone number, email address, school currently attending, and school planning to attend in fall 2013. The essay must be included either as an attachment to the email or in the body of the email. Only one essay will be accepted per submitter.

The decision of the judges is final and nonreviewable. The winner of the scholarship will be notified on or about April 30, 2013. The winner will be publicly announced and the scholarship presented at the Club’s monthly meeting on May 7, 2013, in Redmond, WA. The winner is encouraged, but is not required, to be present at the meeting to receive the scholarship in person.

All submitted essays become property of Eastside Republican Club to use, reproduce, or distribute as it sees fit in its sole discretion, including publication on the Club’s web site, although authorship will be acknowledged. In addition, by submitting an essay, the submitter grants permission to the Club to use her or his name and photograph for publicity purposes, including, but not limited to, announcing the winner of the scholarship.
