Brush Fire Near Black Diamond Under Control

A 3 to 5 acre brush fire is contained but still burning Wednesday afternoon after it was first reported Tuesday at about 4:20 p.m.

According to Mountain View Fire and Rescue, the fire was in a wooded area approximately one hundred yards off the road in an area with downed trees and brush. The fire is in deep duff and is difficult to completely extinguish.

Firefighters had a difficult time locating the actual fire because there were no trails or roads to the location. Once the crews located the main fire they hauled hoses deep into the woods to spray water and had wild land firefighters work with tools to get the fire under control.

J. R. Hayes & Sons Trucking & Excavating out of Maple Valley brought a dozer to help create a fire line around the perimeter of the fire. This helped contain the fire to the area already burned and allowed us to reduce the number of personnel on scene overnight.

A crew stayed on scene overnight and other crews came in this morning to reinforce the line, put out hot spots, and put equipment back in service in the daylight. Officials will check on this fire periodically over the next few days since the fire is deep in the duff.
