ENUMCLAW, WA — Ronald Clayton, a wanted Level III sex offender, was arrested on Thursday morning, two days after law enforcement put out an alert that he was on the run. Investigators said the 40-year-old man cut off his GPS bracelet after getting released from prison in the Tacoma area over the weekend. Clayton had most recently served time for failure to register as a sex offender.

On Thursday, the Pierce County Sheriff's Department credited the Department of Corrections, U.S. Marshals and Enumclaw PD for securing the capture. According to investigators, Clayton had meth on him and was arrested on a drug charge and an escape warrant.

The News Tribune reports Clayton was first convicted in 1995 after forcing his way into a stranger's home and raping a woman at gunpoint. Following that, he was convicted twice for failing to register as a sex offender — in 2014 and 2016. A Level III sex offender is classified as the most likely to re-offend.
