2 Gig Harbor Students Win Library Card Contest
Not one but two youngsters from Gig Harbor will have their art on new Pierce County Library cards.
GIG HARBOR, WA - Two Gig Harbor students have won a Pierce County Library contest, and the prize is having their artwork displayed on new library cards.
The winners are Jasmyn Uribe (the reading narwhal) of Harbor Heights Elementary and Denae Folen (the girl reading) of Goodman Middle School. About 18,000 votes from the public were cast to pick the top two winning designs. Some 900 students from around Pierce County in all grades submitted designs for consideration.
“Designing a library card that will be used by thousands of people is a pretty big deal – and talented students from across the county were up for the challenge,” said Pierce County Library Executive Director Georgia Lomax. “Thank you to the nearly 18,000 votes cast for all of the creative entries, and congratulations to Jasmyn and Denae!”
