Along Pioneer Way in Gig Harbor, self-titled “hopeless romantics” Shelby and Candice Langston are polishing some long-hidden gems. The Tradewinds Treasure Gallery, open for two and a half weeks now, showcases treasures of all kinds, which the Langstons find, often, just by happenstance.
“It’s a constant treasure hunt,” Candice Langston said. “We look at different auctions, yard sales, artists who possibly would like to consign. It’s just keeping your eyes open and being curious and trying to find the treasure.”
Part of the couple’s philosophy in running the store is keeping an open mind to the definition of treasure. The collection includes things from coffee pots to ancient Chinese lutes.

“Everyone has some aspect in his or her mind of what treasure is,” Shelby Langston said.
Right now, many of the pieces in the store are made of jade from imperial China. Several of the paintings hung on the walls are by a local artist, Gary Peterson, who makes his work stand out by incorporating his art into the frame surrounding the piece. There is also fine jewelry that wouldn’t normally be found at malls.

“Candice has a weakness for beautiful jewelry,” Shelby Langston said of his wife with a laugh.
