Harbor History Museum Executive Director Announces Resignation

The Harbor History Museum in Gig Harbor announced on Monday that Executive Director Sue Loiland will resign her position effective Jan. 31, 2013. Loiland has come to realize that the duties of her position as Executive Director are not compatible with her personal situation, according to a press release issued by the museum. She will remain available as a consultant after Jan. 31 as necessary.

“Sue has done an admirable job overseeing the Museum in spite of the severe accident experienced by her husband in November 2011,” said Board of Trustees President Frank Ruffo. “The Board fully supports her in her goal to help him reach a full recovery.”

As a result of Loiland’s departure, the Board will take the opportunity to evaluate the Museum’s future leadership needs.

“We have complete confidence in our staff to oversee the Museum while we determine the needs for its ongoing success and to carry our 2013 program forward,” said Ruffo.

The museum board named Loiland as executive director in August 2011 to replace Jennifer Kilmer, who was hired to lead the Washington State Historical Society.
