'He Is So Brave': Gig Harbor Hero

GIG HARBOR, WA — As the coronavirus outbreak has spread across the country, thousands of everyday heroes have stepped up to help their communities in a time of crisis. We all know someone who's making a difference right now, making our days a little brighter as we push forward into an uncertain future. Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize those everyday heroes who are giving it their all.

This submission comes from Marlyn Jensen of Gig Harbor, who nominated her friend Erik Clarkson.

What does the nominee do for work?
Pierce County Deputy and Military

He is on the Pierce County Swat Team, Battalion Sergeant Major, and Pierce County Deputy. He served in Army Reserves (Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Afghanistan. He has just arrived back from Afghanistan He and his wife had new baby girl but he was gone for both Thanksgiving and Christmas. What a great, brave man!

Why do you believe the nominee should be recognized or honored?
He just arrived back from Afghanistan serving 6 months . Then he started back as a Pierce County Deputy on front lines here. Protecting us both places! He and his wife had a new borne daughter when he left for overseas. He came home for a brief visit but missed both Thanksgiving and Christmas here.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about your hero?
He is so brave!
