High Winds Force Park Closures In Gig Harbor
Gusts up to 30 mph are expected throughout the day Thursday and possibly Friday. The city said the parks will likely reopen on Saturday.

GIG HARBOR, WA - High winds and the potential for falling trees has forced the city to close Grandview Forest Park and Skate Park and Crescent Creek Park.
Grandview Forest Park in Harbor Heights, located at 3488 Grandview St., and Crescent Creek Park at 3303 Vernhardson St. will reopen when wind gusts have lessened, Gig Harbor officials said, noting the parks may reopen on Saturday.
Weather forecasts currently show rainstorms around Gig Harbor every day for the foreseeable future, with some wind gusts expected to reach up to 30 mph on Thursday. Winds could ease up heading into the weekend, with forecasts predicting gusts up to 20 mph Jan. 4 and less than 10 mph Jan. 5.

The city says residents should treat the unscheduled park closure the same as when the park closes overnight. Violators could face misdemeanor trespassing charges and fines up to $136 — as well as the danger of large tree branches breaking off, falling, and causing injury.
