Lowland Snow Possible For Gig Harbor: Winter Weather Ahead
Snow is still headed to much of Western Washington, but it may not last as long as previously thought. Here's the latest from forecasters.
GIG HARBOR, WA — The moment forecasters have been warning of all week is almost here: a chance of snow is coming to lowlands across the Puget Sound region.
Earlier forecasts predicted a possibility for lowland snow this past weekend and later this week, but the weekend snow didn't really pan out, and new models show later this week will likely be a wash as well.
However, there is still one shot for snow under 500 feet, and it's coming up quick: over Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning forecasters say parts of the sound could see under an inch of snow.

Alright everyone, we have a snow update. The greatest chance of some flakes falling is on Tuesday night. With marginal temps and east winds it is not looking good for any kind of accumulation for most of the area. But it is a tricky forecast so things can change easily. #wawx pic.twitter.com/RIjYN97g1f

The snow may not stick around past Wednesday as earlier predicted, but the cold still will. The National Weather Service predicts lows in the low 30s overnight with daily highs in the mid 40s. Those cold temps will linger through Friday night, when warmer weather will move in and heat up the weekend a little.
A few showers today mainly over the southern portion of the area and in the form of rain or rain and snow mixed this morning. Next chance for lowland snow Tuesday night into Wednesday morning with snow levels mostly likely lowering to around 500 feet. #wawx pic.twitter.com/ME5vPHpuuu

Cold temps also mean icy roads, and first responders are warning everyone to take it slow during the cold snap — especially if snow is falling.

Eastern Washington has already been hit hard by the snow, which caused more than a dozen car crashes in the Tri-Cities area Monday.
Collision totals from the start of the snow fall yesterday: Tri-Cities....13 Grandview....9 Yakima.....5 Walla Walla....2 One common denominator: People are driving too fast for the roadway conditions.
