Man Accused Of Killing Sister In Deadly Gig Harbor Stabbing

A 19-year-old man has been arrested, and accused of stabbing and killing his 23-year-old sister.

GIG HARBOR, WA — A young woman has died, and her teenaged brother is behind bars after a deadly stabbing just outside of Gig Harbor Wednesday night.

According to the Pierce County Sheriff's Department, deputies with their Peninsula Detachment responded to a 911 call just after 5 p.m. Wednesday. The caller reported that a young adult man had stabbed his own sister in a home in the Artondale area, and had fled the area on foot.

As deputies headed to the scene, they say the 19-year-old suspect also called 911 to report the stabbing himself. Law enforcement officers caught up to him about two blocks from the crime scene and took him into custody without further incident.

Meanwhile, medics arrived at the home looking to provide aid, and found the 23-year-old victim inside, suffering from critical stab wounds. They rushed the woman to a nearby hospital, but she died from her injuries shortly after being checked in.

Deputies say they've been told the brother has a history of mental illness issues. He has been booked into the Pierce County Jail on suspicion of murder. The sheriff's department continues to investigate.
