Strike Teams Deploy To Key Peninsula Brush Fire
Firefighters estimated the fire burned 8 acres and was 70 percent containment late Thursday afternoon.
GIG HARBOR, WA — Fire crews from around the region were called in to help contain a brush fire in the Key Peninsula area Thursday afternoon. The first crews arrived near 118th Street Northwest and 160th Avenue Northwest shortly after 2:30 p.m.
According to Key Peninsula Fire, the fire was about 3 acres in size upon arrival, and crews requested mutual aid from neighboring departments and a helicopter from the Department of Natural Resources. Another helicopter from Washington State Patrol helped firefighters track the fire as it moved slowly to the west.

By 4:30 p.m., Gig Harbor Fire said the fire had grown to about 7 acres in a heavily wooded area, but no buildings were immediately threatened. Per the latest update from Key Peninsula Fire, flames have moved across 8 acres, and the fire is 70 percent contained, with help from local strike teams.
