Proceeds from this year's race will reportedly benefit Gig Harbor Peninsula FISH Food Bank and Community Services, Food Backpacks 4 Kids, the Bischoff Food Bank, and local high school scholarships, according to GigHarborTurkeyTrot.com

Established in 2003 by Tim Holmes and his family, the Turkey Trot Fun Run was originally meant to prepare Holmes for a marathon with his son. Inviting 15 others to join him that Thanksgiving morning, Holmes thought it'd be a good way to work up an appetite, according to the Kitsap Sun.
