2-Alarm Lakewood Fire May Impact Evening Commutes

An apartment fire along Steilacoom Boulevard has firefighters warning drivers to avoid the area Tuesday afternoon.

LAKEWOOD, WA — A 2-alarm fire in Lakewood is likely to cause some traffic backups for commuters Tuesday evening.

According to West Pierce Fire & Rescue, their crews were called to an apartment fire in the Four Fountains Apartments at 30 Thunderbird Parkway. However, the response has been big enough it may cause problems for drivers heading down Steilacoom Boulevard.

Firefighters say at least one unit on the apartment complex's third floor was heavily damaged by the blaze. Several others may also be damaged.

One person also had to be evacuated by medics, but is in okay condition.

Crews say they expect to be on scene for some time, and advise commuters to avoid the area, if possible.
