Day And Nighttime Mortar Training Returns To JBLM This Week

The base says to expect extra noise at all hours of the day starting Monday and running through to the weekend.

LAKEWOOD, WA — Residents of Lakewood who live near Joint Base Lewis-McChord should expect some extra noise this week.

The base confirms military members will be conducting mortar training all this week, starting at 6 p.m. Monday and running through to midnight on Friday. The training includes day and nighttime instruction, meaning residents can expect noises at all hours.

During training, JBLM Army units fire live munitions into a designated "artillery impact area" on JBLM's main campus.

As longtime residents are no doubt aware, those shells can cause some noise for the surrounding area.

More on the training and the potential noise can be found on JBLM's website. Comments or complaints about the noise can be called in to the JBLM Garrison Public Affairs hotline at 253-967-085.
