The artwork of four Clover Park School District students will soon be added to Lakewood PD's newest motorcycle units.

LAKEWOOD, WA - Four kids from Lakewood-area elementary schools will see their unique artwork displayed on the Lakewood Police Department's newest motorcycles. The Clover Park School District students were selected by popular vote earlier this month.

Hundreds of students from across the district submit their art for the official Cops & Kids Art Contest. Out of 18 semi-finalists chosen by the district, the following four students were selectedwhich was judged by 175 parents and community members between March 4 and 8. :

  • Iyaat A., Tillicum Elementary School;
  • Jana K., Lake Louise Elementary School;
  • Presley T., Four Heroes Elementary School; and
  • Sophia G., Oakbrook Elementary School.

"We are excited to partner with the school district and give our students the chance to help create something new for the police department," Lakewood Police Chief Mike Zaro said in a statement. "We look forward to getting the artwork on the motorcycles soon and showing the kids what they did."

According to the school district, the idea for the contest was actually proposed by Zaro.

"It's been a great collaborative effort between the district and police department," district spokeswoman Leanna Albrecht told Patch Monday. "We're very appreciative of the opportunity for the kids."

Arrangements will be made for the students to see their artwork on the motorcycles once the decals have been added. However, it's unclear when the artwork and motorcycles will be unveiled; sometime in spring, Albrecht said.

Calls to the Lakewood Police Department were not immediately returned.
