Friday Deadline To Join Pierce County Restaurant Rally

Participating restaurants offer 30 percent discounts to patrons, but are compensated for 50 percent of gross sales by the county.

LAKEWOOD, WA — Restaurants have until the end of the work day Friday to enter to be a part of the upcoming Pierce County Restaurant Rally.

The rally is an event, designed by Pierce County leadership, to encourage residents to patronize local restaurants and bring in a little extra business amid the economic turn down caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

The way it works is fairly simple:

  • During the rally, participating restaurants offer a 30 percent discount to all dine-in patrons.
  • In return, the county compensates the restraints by paying them an extra 50 percent of their gross sales.
    • Restaurants will be eligible to receive up to $90,000 during the rally, and no less than $5,000.

In order to qualify to receive that money, restaurants must:

  • Be a licensed, full service restaurant with a NAICS Code of 722511, whose primary business is serving food to patrols who are seated and pay after eating.
  • Be physically within Pierce County limits and have opened before March 23, 2020, and currently be open.
  • Be able to provide weekly documentation of gross sales when the discounts are applied.

As for those who want to patronize local businesses and earn a hefty discount: the rally itself is coming up quick. It runs from November 8 through the 19, excluding that Friday and Saturday. The discount will not be applied to alcohol purchases.
