I-5 Road Repairs Will Force Closures Near DuPont Next Week
Overnight commuters leaving JBLM for DuPont will need to give themselves some extra time next Monday.
LAKEWOOD, WA — Late-night commuters in the DuPont area will want to plan ahead for a road closure early next week that WSDOT says will likely cause some congestion.
According to the Washington State Department of Transportation, maintenance crews will be closing two lanes of northbound I-5 from the Center Drive overpass to north of Steilacoom-DuPont Road on-ramp from 10 p.m. Monday through 4:30 a.m. Tuesday.
During that time, WSDOT will also be closing the Center Drive on-ramp to I-5, northbound I-5 exits to the Fort Lewis weigh station and exit 119 to Steilacoom-DuPont Road, plus the Steilacoom-DuPont Road on-ramp to I-5 northbound.

The department of transportation says DuPont travelers heading north should instead detour onto southbound I-5 to Mounts road, and then pull around back onto northbound I-5.
Meanwhile, semi trucks heading northbound on I-5 that wish to exit on Steilacoom-DuPont Road are instead advised to detour onto 41st Division Drive, then head south to the Steilacoom-DuPont Road southbound exit, which will remain open.

During the closure, crews will be repaving weathered asphalt. As a result, the construction is weather sensitive and may be rescheduled at any time.
