JBLM Resumes Mortar And Artillery Training For The Next 10 Days

Anyone who lives near Joint Base Lewis-McChord can expect some more noise for the next week and change.

LAKEWOOD, WA — Residents of Lakewood who live near Joint Base Lewis-McChord will want to prepare for some extra noise this week.

The base announced Friday that they will be conducting artillery and mortar training starting at 6:30 a.m. Saturday, and lasting all the way through 5:30 a.m. Monday, April 19.

During artillery training, JBLM Army units fire live munitions into a designated "artillery impact area" on JBLM's main campus.

As longtime residents are no doubt aware, those artillery shells can cause some noise for the surrounding area.
