JBLM Warns Of 'High-Speed Train Runs' This Weekend

A signal testing program will have trains running at high speeds along I-5 between Tacoma and Lakewood. Here's what to watch for.

LAKEWOOD, WA — Joint Base Lewis-McChord is warning the public to be especially careful near the train tracks this weekend.

That's because they'll be running a series of high-speed train runs and testing their traffic and railroad crossing signals — so they want to make sure everyone is prepared and knows to stay off the tracks.

Between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Sunday, trains will be travelling at up to 79 mph north and south along I-5 between South Tacoma, Lakewood, JBLM and DuPont.

To avoid any potential disasters, the base is warning the public: obey both the traffic and railroad crossing signals, remember to stop when the lights turn red, and never ever stop on the tracks.

Depending on how the signal testing pans out, the base says testing may continue through the rest of the month.
