Lakewood Calls On Artists To Create Designs For Signal Cabinets

Artists whose submissions are selected win $700 and get to see their art brought to life.

LAKEWOOD, WA — The City of Lakewood is calling on local artists to help beautify their town.

The city is asking artists to submit designs to wrap several signal cabinets across Lakewood. Signal cabinets are those metal boxes that appear near most traffic signals. The Lakewood Arts Commission says that, by wrapping the boxes in artwork they hope to kill two birds with one stone: prevent graffiti and make the city more beautiful and varied.

Artists whose work is picked to wrap a cabinet will receive $700 in compensation. Several cabinets are being considered for wrapping, and they all have different sizes and parameters. More on the specifics of the project, including project dimensions and rules for submission, can be found here. Any medium will be considered, as long as the art can be reproduced digitally on a two-dimensional vinyl wrap.
