Lakewood Cancels Summer Nights at the Pavilion Concert Series
The city says the continued concerns over the coronavirus have forced them to cancel the popular concert series.
LAKEWOOD, WA — The City of Lakewood has announced the cancellation of the remaining Summer Nights at the Pavilion concerts, citing concerns over the health and safety of concertgoers amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The concert series had been announced mid-June as a seven-week show with concerts each Thursday at the Pavilion lawn. Initially, the city had hoped that safe social distancing guidelines would be enough to keep the shows safe, but say that the recent surge of coronavirus infections means the shows can no longer continue. At the time of the cancellation four concerts remained, culminating with a final August 27 "Rockaraoke" show where the audience would perform karaoke with a live band.
Despite the cancellation, the city says they still intend to host Drive-in Movies at Fort Steilacoom Park on August 21 and 28 if conditions allow.
