Lakewood Candidates Set For 2019 Elections

On the last day to withdraw from the 2019 election, 14 people remained on the ballot for positions on the city council and school board.

LAKEWOOD, WA — On Monday, the last day to officially withdraw from the 2019 primary election in August, nine people remained in the running for positions on the Lakewood City Council — only two of whom are incumbents, including Mayor Don Anderson.

Among the races, Council Position Six is the most hotly contested, with six different individuals all in the running. They are: Linda Farmer, Ken Witkoe, Wilbert Pina, Chas. Ames, Ria J. Johnson, and Malcolm Russell.

They each hope to fill the seat being vacated by outgoing councilwoman and lifelong Lakewood resident Marie Barth, who has sat on the council since 2011.

Running for Council Position Seven are incumbent Paul Bocchi, who's sat on the council since 2012, and newcomer Siabhon Ayuso.

Anderson is running unopposed to retain his Council Position Four seat. Anderson was first elected to Council Position Four in 2008, serving as deputy mayor for five years. He was elected mayor of Lakewood proper in 2012.

Anthony Veliz is running unopposed to replace outgoing board member Becki Kellcy for Director of District 1.

Carole K. Jacobs hopes to extend her school board service for a seventh term sitting as Director of District 2, though she's challenged this time by newcomer Kimi Irene Ginn.

And incumbent Paul Wagemann is running against Taniesha Lyons to keep hold of his place as Director of District 5.
