Lakewood Police Help Mariners Home Opener Festivities

Lakewood police will be a part of the home opener festivities on Monday, according to the Mariners.

LAKEWOOD, WA - The Mariners home opener against the Houston Astros gets underway Monday at 2:10 p.m., but before the game starts, the team will gets some help from Lakewood police to kick off the Safeco season. Lakewood police, along with the Kitsap Fire Fighters Union Honor Guard, will present the colors at the game.

The presentation of the colors is one of several events lined up for the Mariners home opener. The National Anthem will be performed by Ret. Naval Petty Officer, 1st Class, Generald Wilson. And the traditional run-around-the bases ceremony will be done by eight-year-0ld Sophia Robinson of Anchorage, Alaska. Robinson suffers from a life-threatening heart condition, but has grown close to pitcher Felix Hernandez through the Make-A-Wish foundation.

Pre-pre game festivities kick off at 11:40 a.m. when the Safeco gates open, and will include a countdown outside the home plate gate with Mariner Moose, and announcers Rick Rizzs and Aaron Goldsmith. All fans in attendance Monday will get a magnetic schedule, according to the Mariners.
