Lakewood Turns 25, City Council Declares Year Of Celebration

Local leaders are looking back on a quarter-century of Lakewood history.

LAKEWOOD, WA — The City of Lakewood turned 25 on Sunday, now local leaders are looking back on a quarter century of Lakewood history.

Lakewood was incorporated, officially becoming a city, on February 28, 1996. Monday, Lakewood City Council issued a proclamation declaring 20201 a year of celebration to mark the 25th anniversary.

The proclamation reads, in part:

"The City of Lakewood exemplifies what an involved citizenry can accomplish when they are equipped with a strong sense of community pride and willingness to provide service in the community where they live, work and play and who continue working hard to build a safe, healthy and vibrant community."

The city also shared this video, remembering some trials and tribulations the city has seen over the past two and a half decades:

A number of 25th anniversary celebrations and events are in the works. One of which started late last year, an art contest which is still accepting entries.
