Lakewood's American Lake Park Reopens Following Weekend Homicide
The park had been closed after a deadly altercation Saturday. A suspect has been arrested, and it has since been reopened to the public.
LAKEWOOD, WA — American Lake Park reopened to the public at noon Monday, following a nearly two-day closure after a homicide over the weekend.
According to the city, two individuals had gotten into some sort of altercation Saturday, which ended with one of them dead. The other was arrested by Lakewood Police Saturday evening, but the park remained closed through Sunday and Monday morning.
American Lake Park is a five acre park found, unsurprisingly, at the north end of American Lake. The park offers picnic shelters, tables, a swimming beach and a public boat launch.

Now that the park has reopened, the city says visitors should expect slightly crowded conditions — the latest, record-breaking heat wave has all of Western Washington trying to find creative ways to beat the heat. As a result, the city is warning visitors that parking space may be limited, and that parking restrictions in neighboring areas are still in effect and may result in tickets for cars that park on the sidewalk or block driveways.
The city is also reminding swimmers to stay in the designated swimming area, and avoid jumping from piers or docks. Alcohol is also prohibited at the park, and the city asks that any visitors pack up any trash they bring to the lake:
