Oak Grove Elementary, Firwood Secondary Students Blast Off

Students designed and assembled their rockets and sent them skyward July 3.

Students from Oak Grove Elementary School and Firwood Secondary School celebrated Independence Day by shooting off rockets during the schools’ “Blast Off” event July 3. The students designed and assembled their rockets and sent them skyward with the help of staff members. The students are part of Oak Grove/Firwood’s summer program.

“This event provides a great opportunity for the students to celebrate the Fourth of July,” said Robin McIlvaine with the Child Study and Treatment Center. “It’s a great way for them to socialize with other students and take pride in successfully making a rocket.”

Teachers, counselors, doctors, nurses and others attended the event. The schools hold a number of events throughout the year. Oak Grove and Firwood are part of the Clover Park School District’s Transitional Day Program.
