Olympia Capitol Campus Lockdown Message Was 'False Alarm'

Washington State Patrol confirms that some residents recerived a message warning of a lockdown at the Capitol Thursday.

OLYMPIA, WA — An alert warning of a lockdown at Olympia's Capitol Campus was actually a false alarm, according to the Washington State Patrol.

WSP sent a message out over Twitter Thursday morning, confirming that the alert was made in error and should be disregarded.

A follow-up alert, clarifying that the first was a false alarm, has also reportedly been sent out in an effort to clear up any confusion.

While Thursday's message was just a false alarm, it is a reminder that tensions have been high on the Capitol Campus. Less than one month ago, a group of protesters breached the gates of the governor's mansion — the same day a pro-Trump mob lead a deadly riot in Washington D.C.

Following the breach, Gov. Jay Inslee mobilized hundreds of Washington National Guard members to secure the campus for several weeks.

Now that those efforts are drawing down, the campus remains largely silent. Lawmakers gathered at the Capitol Campus for the first day of the 105-day legislative session, but only to approve a proposal to hold the rest of the session remotely.
