Thorne Lane On-Ramp Closes For 3 Months Wednesday
The closure had originally been scheduled for last Friday, but has been pushed to begin overnight Wednesday.
LAKEWOOD, WA — Commuters in the Lakewood area will want to be prepared for an extended closure of Thorne Lane's on-ramp to I-5, which will begin Wednesday.
Barring any severe weather issues, the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) says their crews are set to close the on-ramp from Thorne Lane to southbound I-5 for about three months starting Wednesday night.
During the closure, drivers will have to get on I-5 via Gravelly Lake Drive or Berkeley Street.

Here's a look at how that might work:

During the closure, WSDOT says to expect narrowed or shifted lanes on I-5 and on ramps in the area, daytime shoulder closures, and full lane closures during weeknights.

The closure is part WSDOT's Thorne Lane Corridor Improvements, and by the time the closure has lifted, crews will have:
- Completed the roundabout connecting Union Avenue to the new Thorne Lane bridge.
- Built a whole new Thorne Lane on-ramp from the overpass onto I-5.
- Finished a new shared exit from I-5 onto Thorne Lane and Berkeley Streets.
WSDOT has also produced a handy video explaining all the changes:
