Apply For Mercer Island City Council Open Seat

Councilman Tom Acker resigned almost two weeks ago.

MERCER ISLAND, WA - The city of Mercer Island is accepting applications to fill a vacancy on City Council. Tom Acker resigned from the Council almost two weeks ago.

Acker's replacement will serve until the November 2019 election, but will have important duties between now and then - including working on the city budget, passing laws, and setting city priorities. The only requirements are that you be a registered voter and have at least one year of residency on the island.

To apply, fill out an application form here. Candidates will be interviewed by city officials, with final approval coming from the City Council.

Acker submitted his resignation on Sept. 29, citing "personal health concerns and family commitments." He was elected in November 2017 and was in the middle of his first term.
