Mercer Island Cancels Classes After Bomb Threat

The bomb threat was made via a note found in a classroom Thursday afternoon.

MERCER ISLAND, WA - A bomb threat written on a piece of paper was found at Mercer Island High School Thursday afternoon. The threat, which was found by a teacher, targeted the high school for bombing, according to Mercer Island police.

Police identified two students linked to the note, and one was interviewed at their home, according to police. The threat was deemed "non-credible" by police.

The note was found around dismissal time, but the school grounds were cleared and all after-school activities were canceled. Police said that no other schools in the district were impacted by the note. As well, no private schools on Mercer Island were affected.

The incident is still under investigation, and the district has decided to cancel classes Friday to allow students and staff time to recover from the incident.
