Centenarians share birthday
Covenant Shores retirement community celebrates centenarians' birthdays

It may have been just like “every other day,” according to 100-year-old Bert Pound. But he and fellow centenarian and Covenant Shores resident Lois Lawson enjoyed one heck of a party.
The pair live at the faith-based, continuing care retirement community in Mercer Island. On Sept. 28, 2016 – 100 years ago to the day, in 1916 – they celebrated their shared birthdays in style: great food, great company and a live performance by the University of Washington Alumni Band, which Pound has been a member since 1977.
According to Pound, “It was overwhelming to see all of those people show up for a party. The best part was the Husky Alumni Band playing celebratory music, which was quite a big deal. It was a very happy occasion.” For Lois, turning 100 “doesn’t feel any worse. The best part was having all of my family there, and I loved the music.” Covenant Shores staff said Bert, as usual, was the life of the party!
