MERCER ISLAND, WA — Chase is opening two new banks in Mercer Island and Bellevue Monday that the company calls "digital first." That means customers will do most of their own banking via tablets or video conferencing.

For typical business like deposits and withdrawals at the new branches, customers will use an ATM-like "smart" kiosk. There will also be video conferencing available so customers can talk to banking advisors. Human bankers will still be on hand to help people open accounts.

"These branches were selected as Digital First locations because local customers are digitally-savvy and are doing their routine transactions digitally," Chase said in a press release, noting that about 80 percent of transactions are already done with a digital device.
