Dangerous Trees Will Be Removed On Mercer Island
The trees, near the North Mercer Way park-and-ride, pose a "high risk of failure."

MERCER ISLAND, WA - The city of Mercer Island will remove 19 potentially dangerous trees along North Mercer Way beginning Thursday. The trees were deemed as at risk of falling over.
The trees were planted in the late 1980s during the renovation of I-90. The Norway maple trees were damaged by harsh sunlight when they were planted and have never recovered.
Of the 22 trees, 16 are considered a "high risk" of failure. Although the removal will begin Thursday, the new saplings won't be in place until February. The replacement trees will be the same height as the ones being removed, but will be a species that can withstand sunlight exposure.
